HFS Nature Hiking

HFS Hiking introduces children to the wonders of nature through guided hikes on scenic trails, integrating essential elements of the HFS Cognitive Training System into the experience. This activity enhances physical fitness, sensory integration, and environmental awareness while promoting holistic development across nine key skill categories:

  1. Breathing: Techniques to enhance respiratory control and relaxation.

  2. Balance: Exercises to improve stability and spatial awareness on varying terrains.

  3. Core Strength: Activities to strengthen the core muscles, aiding in overall body support and posture.

  4. Hand-Eye Coordination: Tasks that require coordination between visual input and hand movements.

  5. Crossing Midline: Movements that encourage using both sides of the body together, promoting brain hemisphere integration.

  6. Body Coordination: Full-body exercises that improve overall coordination and motor planning.

  7. Dexterity: Fine motor skills activities to enhance hand and finger coordination.

  8. Flexibility: Stretching exercises to improve muscle elasticity and joint range of motion.

  9. Aerobic Endurance: Cardiovascular exercises to boost stamina and heart health.

Trained guides lead the children through various terrains, encouraging exploration, teamwork, and mindfulness. Each hike is carefully designed to incorporate these nine skill areas, ensuring a comprehensive and enriching experience that builds confidence, resilience, and a deep connection to nature.

HFS Gardening

HFS Gardening allows children to connect with nature by cultivating plants and maintaining gardens. This activity promotes sensory engagement, fine motor skills, and responsibility. Children learn about plant life cycles, ecosystems, and sustainable practices while experiencing the therapeutic benefits of working with soil and nurturing living things. The garden becomes a space for creativity, learning, and personal growth.

At designated breaks during gardening activities, HFS training will be incorporated through focused activities such as breathing exercises, balance skills, and yoga practices. These breaks provide an opportunity to reinforce key developmental skills in a calming natural environment, enhancing the overall therapeutic benefits of gardening.

HFS Sculpture & Art

HFS Sculpture & Art is the signature program, developed in collaboration with prestigious historic art centers. This unique experience combines the tranquility of nature with creative expression, providing neurodiverse children with an unparalleled opportunity for artistic growth and development. Children are guided to create sculptures and artworks using natural materials like clay, wood, leaves, and stones. This activity fosters imagination, fine motor skills, and a sense of accomplishment. Working in outdoor settings, children draw inspiration from their surroundings, enhancing their connection to nature and their artistic abilities.

To further enrich the experience, HFS training elements and music therapy are incorporated into the activities. During art sessions, children participate in exercises that enhance key developmental skills such as hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and body coordination. Music therapy sessions are also integrated, where children create art while listening to or engaging with music, which helps in improving emotional expression, rhythm, and concentration. These combined elements not only nurture creativity but also support cognitive and behavioral development, making HFS Sculpture & Art a holistic and transformative program for neurodiverse children.

HFS Nature Camps

HFS Nature Camps offer immersive, multi-day experiences that immerse neurodiverse children in the natural world. These camps provide a structured yet flexible environment where children can engage in a variety of activities such as hiking, woodcraft, art, and team-building exercises. To ensure each child's safety and engagement, the camp maintains a 1:2 ratio of staff to children, providing personalized attention and support.

This therapeutic camp includes daily two-hour HFS training sessions, carefully designed to complement the camp activities. These sessions integrate exercises that enhance key developmental skills such as hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and body coordination. Music therapy is also incorporated, allowing children to engage with music, which aids emotional expression, rhythm, and concentration.

Parents are invited to observe and participate in the exercises, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. Additionally, the camp includes mindful parenting education sessions, providing parents with tools and techniques to support their children's development at home. This comprehensive approach ensures that both children and parents benefit from the camp, extending the therapeutic benefits beyond the camp itself. By fostering a continuous and reinforcing developmental environment, the HFS Nature Camps support sustained growth and positive outcomes for neurodiverse children.
